Friends of the Library Sun Lakes Donates Piano. The Friends of the Library in Sun Lakes is helping Gila Bend Branch Library and school by donating a piano - just in time for the Maricopa County Library District's Summer Reading Program with this year's theme "Music"! This school has never had a piano so imagine the excitement when it was delivered on February 21st! Children with happy faces and happy members in the Sun Lakes Friends group!

Friends of the Library celebrated the anniversery of Arizona becoming a state with a presentation by Marshall Trimble. At the reception, participants enjoyed the cupcakes formed to represent the Arizona flag

The Sun Lakes Friends of the Library has been part of our community since 1991 when the Maricopa County Library District opened its first Sun Lakes branch.

The goal of friends is to support the library and contribute to its continuing success. It also seeks to promote special programs that will enrich community life.

The Bookstore, located in the southwest corner of the library, is maintained exclusively by the members of Friends. Gently used books, magazines and videos are available for purchase for very reasonable prices.

Proceeds from the Bookstore are used to sponsor a variety of programs throughout the year.

In previous years, FOL purchased equipment to improve the library facility, such as the automatic handicap accessible door, a welcome addition. In 2014, the Friends purchased and installed a ceiling speaker system and an induction looping system for the hearing impaired in the Lecky Room. This system enables all members of the audience to accurately hear the speaker; it is the first induction looping system in a community building in the East Valley.

How do the Friends of the Sun Lakes Library spend the money raised in our used book store? Capturing the interest of a child to read all their lives, begins early and must be re-enforced with positive experiences and exposure to the world beyond their own doors.
